Comments
- The fact that smacking is not banned, is ridiculous. Physical abuse of any kind is wrong. Smacking teaches children that violence is acceptable in certain situations which is hugely problematic in terms of developing healthy and respectful relationships. This is something that needs to be addressed and stopped immediately, there is no excuse or reason why smacking is EVER acceptable. The UN Convention of the Rights of the Child clearly states this is wrong, all our services agree with that document, it makes no sense that smacking is tolerated in any way. The rise of food banks is the greatest indicator that our society is broken. There is no excuse for people going hungry in this country and we have normalised them, which is very worrying. Poverty is a sign that the state is failing the people and more and more people are living in poverty, while profits in many companies are at an all-time high. This needs to be addressed and considered as a matter of urgency. Many GP surgeries are struggling to cope and many are sending patients with minor ailments to emergency departments, this is a clear sign that our health service is not able to function. The waiting lists and rates of ill health need to be addressed and more needs to be done to encourage people to be empowered and to use education and alternative therapies as ways of managing minor and less serious conditions.
