Bangor West - Drug Law Reform

A safe & regulated market for the selling of & personal use of cannabis should be created
Drug use should be decriminalised so it is not viewed as a criminal justice matter & to focus on a healthcare based approach
There should be an expansion of support services to help those who misuse drugs to quit
The Cancard should be recognised as a validated indication of medical cannabis usage
Safe drug consumption rooms & needle exchange programs should be rolled out region wide so as to give those with addiction issues safe options until they can seek help
Comments
  • We need to support people suffering from drug addiction not demonise them. Decriminalistion of the drug user has worked extremely well in Portugal, it will work well here. On drug policy, we need to encourage the government to tackls drug dealing gangs/paramilitaries. Their violence and scare tactics have severely affected the people of Ards and North Down.
